January 30 Ice Storm in Kansas CityAll shot from our block in Roeland Park, Kansas - USA |
Images shot by digital camera on January 31st, 2002 within 1 block of our home. (The morning after) An estimated 285,000 KCPL customers lost power and an unknown number in rural districts surrounding Kansas City. Both Kansas and Missouri have declared a state of emergency and have requested Federal Disaster Relief funding. Power crews have been called in from 9 states and are working 16-hour shifts. 48 hours later, an estimated 180,000 people are still without power. We are operating under generator power at this time and as you can see by the damage sustained in our own backyard, we don't know how long to expect to be without electricity.
